Baby Boy update – Monday, November 24th.

Well, the weekend is over. Mike and I both hoped Baby Boy would decide to make his debut this weekend, but no such luck.

Baby Boy and I had an ultrasound on Friday. Mike couldn’t come, so his sister Lisa came with me. I expected another typical ultrasound, but the doctor who reviewed Baby Boy’s measurements was still concerned with his size. His estimated size was 8 lbs 9 oz at 39 weeks exactly. He recommended that I take the 3 hour Glucose Tolerance Test to be sure that gestational diabetes had not developed since my (normal) screen at 24 weeks.

So, on Saturday Mike and I got up early and stumbled to Chinatown for the three hour test. I can’t say it was much fun – it required fasting which is never a good time, particularly this late in pregnancy. It also required four blood draws which is also not much fun. Plus three hours sitting in the lab just waiting. But we made it through.

My doctor called with the results this morning, and the test was perfectly normal. He’s just a big, healthy boy. We’re back to waiting to see when he’ll decide to join us but relieved that all is well and that both he and I are healthy as we head into this final chapter of pregnancy.

Fingers crossed this will be the week!
